Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how UK Car Buyers, a trading name of L.A Motors (“we”, “us”), collects and uses your personal information when you use ukcarbuyers.co.uk and when you sell a vehicle to us. We are the data controller for that information, and we process it in accordance with UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Your data is processed in the United Kingdom.

What we collect

• Details you enter in our valuation or contact forms: your name, email address, phone number, location and information about your vehicle (including its registration and any photos you upload).
• Your IP address, stored with form submissions to help prevent spam and misuse.
• If you go ahead and sell us your car, the information needed to complete the purchase safely and lawfully: proof of identity (such as a driving licence or passport) and proof of address, your bank account details so we can pay you, and the vehicle’s V5C (logbook) details.
• Essential cookies needed to keep the site working and your session secure (see Cookies below).

How we use it

• To value your car and respond to your enquiry.
• To arrange and complete the purchase and collection of your vehicle if you choose to proceed, and to pay you.
• To verify identity and ownership, and to keep records of enquiries and purchases and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity.
• To meet our legal obligations, including notifying the DVLA of a change of ownership and keeping records required by law.

Our lawful bases for processing are: taking steps at your request and performing our contract with you (to value your car, agree a purchase and pay you); our legitimate interests in running our business responsibly, keeping records and preventing fraud; and compliance with our legal obligations, such as notifying the DVLA and retaining records for tax purposes. Where we ever rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing. We may share it only where necessary to complete a purchase (for example with the DVLA when transferring ownership, or with our bank to make your payment) or where we are required to do so by law.

How long we keep it

We keep the details of enquiries that do not lead to a sale for up to 12 months, after which they are securely deleted. Where you sell us a vehicle, we keep the records of that purchase for 6 years to meet our legal and tax obligations (for example HMRC record-keeping), after which they are securely deleted.

Cookies

We use only essential, first-party cookies — a session cookie to operate the site securely and remember that you have seen our cookie notice. We do not use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, to data portability, and — where we rely on consent — to withdraw that consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information.
